It was the middle of January in 1765, and a man named Jerry Hopkins wanted to bake a cake. The only problem was, he was out of baking powder. For those of you that don't bake, baking powder is the number one ingredient in a cake. Because Jerry Hopkins was lazy and had no friends, he decided to bake the cake, but without the baking powder. After he mixed all of the ingredients (minus the baking powder), he realized he didn't have a cake pan. Because Jerry Hopkins was lazy and had no friends, he decided to bake the cake, but on a sheet of metal (today known as a cookie sheet). He put the cake in the oven and after 30 minutes, it was finished. But it was different, the cake was flat! To his surprise, he invented the first cookie! A few years later, he founded his own cookie company and became rich and sorta famous (only on the Food Network)
