The 8-Track was actually invented by two Australians, Tra and Ack. These two Australians worked at a local Duct Tape factory and had a passion for music. Music was sadly not portable at the time and Tra and Ack wanted to figure out a solution. While making a batch of Duct Tape, Tra decided to melt a vinyl record and stick it on the Duct Tape. Ack rolled up the tape and put it in a cartridge and called it a Track Tape. Unfortunately, the Track Tape could only hold up to 8 songs, so the name was renamed to 8-Track. The first 8-Track consisted of Australian escalator music with some Vegemite frying in the background. To their surprise, Americans didn't like the 8-Track (because 2 Canadians invented the cassette tape at the same time) and the Vegemite market crashed.
