The word is out from the 20th Century Fox Vault, and it appears there was an original Cast Away staring Bill Murray. Filming began in the summer of 1981, a year after the release of Caddyshack (also staring Bill Murray). Director Robert Zemeckis had the intent of creating an entire movie staring only one individual stranded on an island for the entire duration of the film (mostly because he was cheap and didn't want to hire multiple actors). The beginning of the film would begin with Huck Poland (Bill Murray) traveling on a Amazon Prime train and crash landing into the ocean only to find himself stranded on an island in the middle of the ocean. During Huck's time on the island, he did stand up comedy (constantly) and made friends with an Adidas Basketball to which he named "Adidas". Halfway through the film, Huck realized that he was actually stranded in Lower Manhattan, and that there was a civilization just passed the tree line. After being stranded on the island for 3 years, he decided to book a flight back to his home in Downtown New York City to find that his wife had already been remarried. The rest of the movie follows Huck trying to start his life again by working towards becoming the head greens keeper at a local golf course. Because of the similarity of the movie and Caddyshack, Director Robert Zemeckis went through many lawsuits and the movie went through many script rewrites, before eventually evolving into Friday the 13th part VIII, Jason takes Manhattan. After 20th Century Fox realized that Robert Zemeckis butchered the movie Cast Away, they decided to give him one more chance, but required he hire Tom Hanks, not Bill Murray.
